Google Checkout Sucks! PayPal Has No Worries: Update
Posted on January 23, 2007, under Development.
After forty five minutes of talking to Dicks Sporting Goods customer service line, they have canceled my Google Checkout order and placed an order with their store directly. They were even generous enough to give me 15% off the order to make up for the $10 Google Checkout promotion. In speaking with a supervisor he said that there is an issue with placing orders through Google Checkout where the merchant never receives the order information, he went on to say that this happens almost once a day. The only way to resolve this issue is to cancel the Google Checkout order and place it again. Way to go Google!
Now all I have to do is wait for Google to cancel the order that is already on my card. Google has made this such an enjoyable horrible purchasing experience!

Google checkout does have some bugs still in it, but most new programs do. It is very hard to make software compatible with every system out there. Look for Google checkout to grow and gain more peoples trust.

Right, but if you are going to launch a product that deals with actual money transactions and competing with a company that has been doing it for years… you better bring your “A” game.

I much like the checkout flow, but I hate the free offer they’re using to get people to sign-up. The promotion is virtually worthless to an online consumer who is trying to save money. Everything I’ve tried to use this promotion on, I’ve found cheaper elsewhere. They need more merchants.

Google checkout is great for merchants. It allows buyers to store their personal information and they provide a safe shopping cart for sellers. If the transaction passes Googles checks, then it is safe to sell and buy online.

That is unfortunate to hear. I have made several purchases through Google Checkout and found the process to be fast and well informed. In fact i received confirmations on purchase and shipment through the seller and Google Checkout. Also during Christmas i saved around $300 through the spend $50 get $20 promotion that Buy.com had running with Google Checkout. I also use Google Checkout as a payment gateway for clients of mine and have found API and the process very easy to integrate with. Perhaps DICKs, needs to check how things are set up on their end? But… then again i could be completely wrong.
