Apple and AT&T Not Handling iPhone 3G Sales Well

July 21st, 2008 Comments Off

So eight days ago I ordered my new iPhone 3G, and before even getting my iPhone in my hands I am already a frustrated Apple user. Not the best way to stick your foot in the Apple pool for the first time to see how it feels.

When I ordered my iPhone AT&T said 7-10 days. I  got a nice little confirmation email from AT&T telling me how to check the status of my order. However both the website and the automated phone number are broken. Not just broken as in they can’t find my order, but broken as in they can’t find anyone’s order. AT&T knows it’s broken, tells customers it’s broken, and just will not fix it! The page is so broken that if you go to it and fill out any information and hit enter (as apposed to hitting the submit button) you go to a page that does not exists. That’s just lazy last minute programming. So I have to call the AT&T store that I ordered it from to find the true status, but all they tell me is it’s pending. Nice!

By now it’s clear to see that Apple is shipping much more units, and shipping them faster, to Apple stores then to AT&T stores. Apple loves the attention, love the nightly news covering the loads of people standing outside the local Apple store, because it’s free marketing. Not cool!

I refuse to sit outside in droves for anything, there is nothing in the world worth that much of my wasted time. But Apple and AT&T, get it together! I am a paying customer, stop jerking your customers around.
